“Motherhood is Productive” with Victoria, a Certified Clinical & Holistic Nutritionist, Founder of Waking Wellness, and Mother

Victoria and I had a great conversation about her advice for new mamas. It’s something that I personally felt as a new mum, but also today with a toddler.

Being a mother is a different kind of productivity. It's not just about working on projects or rushing from one activity to another. It's about spending time with your child, nurturing them, and learning to be a mother.

Motherhood is productive.

Something I struggle with is the notion of ‘not being productive’, but I have learnt to view productivity in a different light. It doesn’t have to mean working on a project, signing your child up to all the things available/possible, or even leaving the house each day.

Spending time with your child and learning to be a mother is productive.

Motherhood = productivity

Some nutritional advice…

Ignore appropriate times to eat and honour your hunger signals.

This might be at 2am doing your third night feed, and you need a little something to keep you awake and occupied (lactation cookies.. this is where you come in). Or you may wake up at 4am, and by 6am you are starving.. but you are waiting for 7-8am to clock over to make breakfast.

My advice is to ignore these ‘socially acceptable times to eat’ and to honour your body. You need more food during this time as your body is using so much energy to heal from birth, learn how to be a mother, and to care for your newborn.

Also, make snacks a priority, and try and ensure that they contain a protein and a fat to help keep your satiated
